High School Germany: How to apply
Ready to start your German high school adventure? Simply apply. Got questions? No worries - the GLS high school team in Berlin team is here to help you every step of the way!
See below what the next steps will be.
Step 1:
Please apply by filling out the this form 2 - 6 months before your planned arrival in Germany.
You can start the high school program anytime during the year if you choose a shorter stay of 2, 3, 4, or 5 months (available only at state schools).
For longer stays of 5, 11 months, or more, starting dates are either in autumn or spring.
Step 2:
After submitting your eapplication, you will receive a detailed application form to fill out. If you applied for a private or international school, we will also send you profiles of selected partner schools.
In the detailed application form, you will be asked to provide:
- More information about yourself, your hobbies, and your family
- A short essay explaining your motivation for attending a school in Germany
- A letter introducing yourself to your prospective host family
- A teacher’s comment on your German language level
- A transcript of your grades
- A recommendation from your current school
- A medical statement
Step 3:
Next, we’ll have a quick online interview to get to know you. If it goes well, you’re officially in the GLS High School program! Your parents will get the acceptance letter and invoice, and a first down payment secures your spot.
Step 4:
We start searching for your school in Germany once we receive your first down payment, so please pay promptly to avoid delays.
We’ll match you with a school that suits your interests and a host family (if you’re not at a boarding school). We try to place you with a family that has kids at the same school, but this cannot always be guaranteed.
Step 5:
If you need a visa, we’ll send all the documents you need - just make sure your full payment is complete, as the invitation can only be issued afterward.
When you arrive, your host family will welcome you at the airport or train station, or a school representative will meet you if you’re at a boarding school.
And don’t worry - the GLS team in Berlin will be there every step of the way to help you settle in and make your stay in Germany an unforgettable experience!
