Requirements for an Internship in Berlin
Below please see the requirements for the internship program in Berlin - if you have more to offer, let us know. The more you have in terms of background and qualifications the better!
- knowledge of German on level B1 by the time you start the internship
- participation in a GLS German course of min. 4 weeks - longer if you need more time to get to level B1 (more about levels and time needed to reach them)
- minimum age 18
- finished secondary education
- time budget of min. 10 weeks (German course + internship of min. 6 weeks)
- health and liability insurance (if you don´t have it, you can book it via GLS)
- EU citizenship (incl. Switzerland) or - for citizens of Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan - a working holiday visa (more). Citizens of other countries need a work permit or a student visa allowing them to work
How to apply for an internship
Please apply for an internship no later than 4 weeks prior to arrival. The application process will look like this:

We´ll tell you within max. 2 weekdays if we can find you an internship in the professional field that you choose (see the options). - Confirmation
If you reply to our mail and RE-CONFIRM your application, we will send out a letter of acceptance and an invoice.
And after your arrival in Berlin:
The internship program starts with a German language course (see requirements). The schedule below shows what will happen during the 4 course weeks prior to the start of the internship:
Week 1 | Meeting in the GLS office with the internship coordinator: We brush up your CV if necessary and work on a letter of motivation with you |
Week 2 | 90 minute coaching session with a GLS teacher: The coaching will prepare you for your job interview |
Week 3 | Job interview at the company that GLS has found for you |
Week 4 | Should the company refuse you, a second interview at another company |
Week 5 | Internship starts During the internship you can attend an evening German course for free: 4 weeks with 2 x 2 lessons, TUE and THU, 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm |
