Simply enroll and write “Bildungsurlaub” in the Comments field.
How much leave (Bildungsurlaub) can you get?
- Up to 10 working days within two consecutive calendar years
- Your employment must have lasted at least 6 months
- Your company must operate under German labor law, regardless of nationality
- The course must include at least 30 lessons per week
What You Need to Do (3 Easy Steps)
- Talk to your employer
- Agree on when you can take your educational leave.
- Please note: Bildungsurlaub is available in all German federal states except Bavaria and Saxony.
- Register for the German course
Register a few weeks in advance. Your employer may request the official recognition document up to 6 weeks before the German course. Bildungsurlaub must be approved before the course starts; it cannot be claimed afterward.
- Fill out the GLS registration form
- Write “Bildungsurlaub” in the “Comments” field
- Tell us which federal state you work in
