High School Germany - going to school in Germany
GLS Berlin is an international high school exchange organisation: Since 1983 we have been sending German high school students abroad (e,g. to the USA, Brasil, Australia), and we also place international students at German high schools. GLS is a member of the DFH German High School Association.
Short stays possible, too!
You can stay a full year, but shorter stays of 2 or 3 months are possible, too - with flexible starting dates all year round!

State & private
We place international high school students in Germany at
Requirements
- Age between 15 and 18 (11 to 18 at private schools)
- knowledge of German on level A1/A2 (online test). If you have a lower level or feel insecure, you can da a German course with GLS before starting high school - either at one of the GLS summer camps in Germany or at the GLS German language school in Berlin. As participant in the high school program you will get a discount of 200 EUR for German lessons.

School locations:
If you go to a private school in Germany, you can select a specific school and its location using these school profiles. If you go to a state school, your cannot chosse a specific school, but you can select a city: Berlin, Bremen or Munich
Duration:
- at state schools in Germany: 2, 3, 4, 5 or max. 11 months
- at private schools: 5 or 11 months
Starting dates:
Stays of 5 or 11 months - February and August/September
Shorter stays - anytime all year
Application:
Between 6 to 2 months prior to arrival in Germany
Accommodation:
- state schools: Homestay, single or double room, full board
- private schools: Boarding with full board OR Homestay, single or double room, full board
Visa:
Not necessary, if you are a EU citizen. If you need a visa, we send the invitation you need in order to apply for it. We make sure that you get all the necessary documents that the German embassy in your country wants.
Abitur:
If you want to do the Abitur, the German high school leaving certificate, you will have to spend at least the final 2 school years in Germany (class 11 and 12). You can do Abitur at private schools in Germany.
